Can a power station run an air fryer?

The short answer: often, if the power station is a large one. Air fryers draw well over a kilowatt: Salter lists its 3.2-litre model at 1,300 W and its dual-basket model at 1,450–1,750 W (Salter). That needs a power station with a continuous AC output above the air fryer's rating. Energy matters too: a 20-minute cook can use several hundred watt-hours.

Compared on manufacturers' published specs. Ferncharge has not tested these products. Estimates only.

Add your air fryer to the sizing calculator: add a row with the watts from its rating plate and the hours you'll cook each day (20 minutes is 0.33 hours).

Step 1: power (watts). Can it run at all?

Find the watts on your air fryer's rating plate (usually underneath or on the back) and compare them with the power station's stated continuous AC output. If a range is given, such as Salter's 1,450–1,750 W for its dual-basket model, plan for the top figure.

Stated outputs (alphabetical, from makers' UK pages and manuals):

Jackery Explorer 1000 v21,500 W (Jackery manual)Within continuous ratingAbove continuous rating18 Oct 2026

This compares stated figures only. It doesn't say any air fryer will work with any model: check both manuals.

Boost modes: makers describe their boost modes for heating devices such as kettles and heaters. An air fryer has a fan as well as a heater, so don't count on a boost mode: check the power station's manual. See what is surge power?

Run it on its own. Anything else plugged in adds to the watts, so a 1,750 W air fryer and a 100 W lamp together are already over 1,800 W.

Step 2: energy (watt-hours). How much does a cook use?

Energy used = watts × time. At full power, a 20-minute cook uses about (our arithmetic):

  • 1,300 W air fryer: about 433 Wh
  • 1,750 W air fryer: about 583 Wh

That's a cautious figure: the rating plate shows the most it draws. Time a typical cook and use the calculator with your own minutes.

From a power station's mains socket, add our assumed 10% inverter loss, and remember only about 90% of a LiFePO4 battery's rated capacity is usable (methodology). A 1,000 Wh power station has about 810 Wh available on our assumptions: one 20-minute cook at 1,300 W would use more than half of it.

Camping and power cuts

  • Camping: on a pitch with electric hook-up, the air fryer's watts count towards the hook-up limit. See electric hook-up vs power station.
  • Power cuts: an air fryer uses a lot of a power station's energy for one meal. Decide whether that's the best use of the charge before a cut. See power stations for power cuts.

Safety

Use the air fryer on a stable, heat-proof surface with space around its vents, keep the power station ventilated and away from spills, and follow both manuals. See our safety guide.

FAQs

Can a portable power station run an air fryer?

Yes, if its continuous AC output covers the air fryer's watts with some headroom. Salter lists its air fryers at 1,300 W and 1,450–1,750 W, which needs a large power station.

How many watts does an air fryer use?

Check its rating plate. Salter lists 1,300 W for its 3.2-litre model and 1,450–1,750 W for its dual-basket model.

How long can a power station run an air fryer?

Divide the available energy by the air fryer's watts. About 810 Wh available ÷ 1,300 W is about 37 minutes at full power in total.
